What is brazing?
Brazing is a technique in which two metal parts are attached to each other. This is done by using a filler metal or alloy that melts at a temperature higher than 450 °C. The filling material or alloy always has a lower melting point compared to the parts to be connected. Brazing can be used to join different types of metals, including copper, bronze, steel, stainless steel, nickel and tin. The suitability of the process depends on the materials, the required strength of the connection and the operating temperature. Soldering rods play an important role as a filling material to create a strong and durable connection. When the filler metal melts, it flows between the parts to be joined. When cooling, this material solidifies, resulting in a strong connection.
What should you pay attention to when brazing?
- Surface Preparation: For effective brazing, metal surfaces must be snug and free of dirt, oil, rust and oxidation. This can be achieved by cleaning methods such as sanding or the use of a specific weld seam cleaner , depending on the type of contamination.
- Flux: Almost all brazing processes require some sort of flux to prevent oxides from forming on the metal surfaces when they are heated. Flux can also help remove any existing oxides. It must be compatible with both the workpieces and the solder.
- Heating: The entire workpiece must be heated to the correct temperature to ensure that the solder flows correctly and has capillary action. This can be achieved with a gas burner, an oven, an induction heater or other methods depending on the size of the workpiece and the temperature required.
Soldering rods for brazing: indispensable for a strong connection
Our soldering rods are specifically designed for brazing and manufactured with precision to meet the technical requirements of this process. Our solder bars provide optimal flow and excellent adhesion, crucial for the integrity and durability of the solder joint. The soldering rods are available in the following diameters:
- 1.5mm
- 2.0mm
- 3.0mm
Each rod has a length of 500 mm. The different types of soldering rods, such as Fontargen A 210 K , Fontargen A 3002 V , Fontargen A 3005 V , and others, are available in these diameters. These rods are intended for brazing, a process that typically requires high temperatures. We have specific alloys and properties based on the type (e.g. L-Ag 2 P, L-Ag 5 P, L-Ag 55 Sn, etc.).
Quality and performance with every connection
Whether you are working with copper, steel, brass or another type of metal, our soldering rods ensure a seamless connection with minimal porosity. They can withstand high temperatures and intense working conditions, making them ideal for the most demanding brazing applications.
